I visited Dr. Sokolow in the summer of 2018 for a routine physical check-up. Below is my comments based on this experience.
General Comments:
He runs the clinic solo. He answers his own phone and does all paperwork himself. Doing so has its pros and cons.
Pros:
1. If you call him, he will answer the phone during business hours. There will be no go-between.
2. He will be direct with you and speak his mind. There will be no second guessing what he's really thinking.
3. He will fax or mail you the papers upon request. He gained a star here by mailing my test results the same day as my request.
Update: 4. He reads the reviews and will do what he can to respond to complaints. Please see details in Cons update below. He gained another star here.
Cons:
1. If you are being seen by him during a visit, and someone calls, he answers the phone during the visit.
2. He doesn't keep track of his paper work: when it comes in, what it says. A week after the results arrive to his office, I called him to get results. He claimed they had just arrived. (The previous week, he informed me they had arrived).
3. If he is busy, he requests me as the patient to call him back, instead of him calling me back.
4. . He did not check the papers/policy of insurance. I've never head an hearing check during my physical check up in my 16 years of getting them. Dr. Sokolow did a hearing check on me, despite me commenting that I've never gotten them done before. He assures me it's part of routine checks and that insurance would cover it.
Two weeks passes.
Insurance company informs us they won't cover the hearing test.
Dr. Sokolow had me pay half of the $60 charge. I ended up paying $30 for a test I didn't need/want. Originally my responsbility was supposed to be $0.
5. He lost track of the message he conveyed to me the patient. During the visit, he communicated that regardless of my triglyceride level, I should be weary of what I eat and how much I exercise. He directed to consume less calories and exercise more or else I'd be at risk for diabetes. Fast forward to a month later when he talked to me via phone about my test results: he indicated my triglyceride level was normal and to keep on doing what I've been doing.
Update: He called me some time after I posted this review and offered to refund my part of the payment. He followed thru.
I agree with every one of these 5 star reviews. Dr. S is diligent, efficient and cares about his patients. He answer his own phone and deals directly with everyone. He is thorough, even gave me an EKG in his office on many occasions. He is knowledgeable, punctual, with good bedside manner and a sense of humour to boot. I've lived all over the world and feel confident in saying I've never found a better primary care physician.
I must say that this doctor is great. He listens to the patients and pays full attention. I know the time I spend in his office will be with Dr. Sokolow, not medical assistant. I will not be wasting my valuable time. Really a personalized service that provides practical solutions! I know that if I call his office, I will speak to him---not some assistant or computer.
I must say that this doctor is good. He listens the patient and pay full attention. Not wasting time at all -like other doctors nowadays- in keying in into computer. Really a personalized service and provides practical solutions! The only drawback is the lack of in-house lab facility. Other than that everything is good.
Available almost any time of day, helpful, and knowledgeable, the doctor also takes away those nervous “doctor visit jitters” away with his funny sense of humor. The doctor is also very straight forward. I will continue going to him for any medical problem I might have.
